Tell me
How is it that none of this feels strange?
Our world collapsing crumbling like
Sand in the rain
But I won’t feel a drop
Until I let it hit the page
I’ve felt this way before
Forewarning
Plenty impending is the doom
Like parents warring in the kitchen
Abandoned fort in the living room
(This is the way it was
Everything is in this constant state of devouring
And being devoured)’
It’s been a long time since I’ve feared death
But in ways I’m still a coward
Afraid of my thoughts
Afraid of what’s next
Of being devoured in real time
Real life
Really happening
It’s really cold and
There’s fire over there
Real people
Living on the streets of empty buildings
And most of us would love to leave
But we’re left with no place to live free
We are a colony of ants on the log
We sing
Hive minded as we stoke the flames
We feel the fire
But ignore the pain
Oceans grow higher
Our song splits the heavens open
We become the rain
And we flood the flames
Dancing on ashes we drown
